Visual Arts Focus: Painting and Drawing
During this program, Big Brothers Big Sisters
child/adult mentor-matches learned painting, drawing,
and sculpture techniques.

Mentor-matches used reclaimed and recycled materials,
and learned about bas
relief and artists like Louise Nevelson and
Pablo Picasso.

Over time, students became more
familiar with painting materials and tools. Each
learned how to address different challenges that
occur while working with paint, including the
drying time of paint, how to work with different
paint consistencies, and using different types
of brushes and brush strokes to create a specific
effect.

Holding the program in a professional
gallery allowed participants to view examples
of landscapes in which concepts of horizon
line, back/foreground, depth,
abstract vs. representational, and perspective
were demonstrated.
