
Teaching Artists
Visual Artists
who have had experience working with
children in an educational
environment are encouraged to apply.
Those who have worked specifically
with children with special needs are
preferred.
Stipend
All Teaching
Artists will be provided with a
stipend of $650/6 weeks, including a
$200 materials allowance (TA
provides receipts for
reimbursement). Each Teaching Artist
will be asked to submit an
individual piece of their artwork to
be shown as part of the Side by Side
Exhibition.
Mandatory
Professional Development
Those teaching
artists accepted into the program
will be required to attend one
professional development workshop on
the topic of Working with
Students with Special Needs.
There will be
a PD workshop at two centrally
located sites:
Albany and
Rochester-Dates TBA
Background
Check
All TAs
accepted into the program must
submit a background check with the
New York State Education Department.
Residency
Location
Each TA is responsible for locating
where they will be working with
their student. This site must be in
a public venue and must be approved
by NYSAAE.

Will the
work be exhibited?
Yes! At the
end of the 6 week residency there
will be a reception and exhibition
of the work to celebrate the artwork
created during the program. The Side
by Side exhibition will also spend
time traveling around the state,
being exhibited at various galleries
and art centers.
